In its broadest sense cosmic evolution describes how the universe, including the elementary particles and fundamental substances, have developed over time. It tries to explain the origin of time, space and matter. Physical systems such as particles, planets and stars are considered as gradually changing objects, which evolve in the course of time as a result of various processes.
