Kin Selection is the natural selection of shared genes in the genotype by altruistic behavior in the related phenotypes. Organisms tend to favor the reproductive success of their relatives, even at a cost to their own survival and/or reproduction, because they share genes with them, and therefore indirectly increase the reproductive success of their own genes.
