Context dependence exists when the outcome of a process depends on its current context or environment, and is certainly a property of many complex adaptive systems. Apparently, adaptive systems are path dependent and context dependent. Depending on the context of the system, the behavior, experience and outcomes may vary.

An example is context-dependent memory.
